Baltimore School of Massage and Lorraine Park Cemetery in Maryland by Beverly Litsinger

This article connects two seemingly unrelated locations in Maryland: the Baltimore School of Massage and Lorraine Park Cemetery. Beverly Litsinger explores the eerie lore surrounding the cemetery, from its historic significance to tales of ghostly apparitions and strange occurrences. The Baltimore School of Massage is examined for its history and possible links to spiritual energy, with accounts of students experiencing unexplained sensations during their training. The piece weaves together themes of physical healing and spiritual unrest, suggesting that both locations may hold deeper, interconnected mysteries. Litsinger balances historical details with paranormal accounts, offering a unique perspective on these Maryland landmarks.

We went to the Baltimore School of Massage to investigate reported hauntings and paranormal activity. Workers of the school reported to us that when they work alone in the building at night they hear voices. When they try to approach, the voices move away. Workers can not find anyone in the building. They get the feeling that they are being watched and they hear banging in one part of the building.

The entire school gave us great EMF readings and our Infra Red Thermal Scanner gave us great readings also, with the temperature varying sharply. All the spirits seemed friendly until we got to the front part of the building where we encountered an “angry” ghost. The ghost drained the batteries in our camera, and followed one young lady outside, making her EMF detector go nuts. The monitor with the scale started going back and forth rapidly, and then the battery drained. The spirit then apparently turned the power off in the part of the building.

After investigating the Baltimore School of Massage, we went to Lorranie Park Cemetery. The Infra Red Thermal Scanner got temperature that went 4 degrees below zero. We capture orbs in our pictures. The EMF detector had high reading of 10.

Residual Touch: Paranormal Reports from the Former Baltimore School of Massage

Located in a commercial complex in Linthicum, Maryland, the former Baltimore School of Massage operated for decades as a training ground for bodywork professionals. While seemingly an unlikely candidate for paranormal attention, stories began to circulate among students and instructors that something unseen lingered in the hallways, treatment rooms, and downstairs corridors. Though the building itself is not widely recognized as a historic landmark, it has developed a quiet reputation among former occupants for housing unexplained phenomena—particularly centered around the practice rooms and lower-level spaces.

Multiple students have described a persistent feeling of being watched, particularly while alone during practice hours or evening classes. Some report sensations that mimic human touch—gentle pressure on the shoulder or back—when no one else is present. While massage is inherently a tactile discipline, the presence of these unexplained touches outside of clinical sessions has raised eyebrows. Instructors working late have described hearing footsteps in locked hallways and doors closing softly on their own.

One recurring report involves mirrors in certain training rooms, which were said to reflect vague outlines or flashes of movement not visible when turning to look directly. Though attributed by some to lighting and stress, others believe the phenomena reflect residual energy from years of physical and emotional release experienced within the space. Paranormal investigators who were granted after-hours access in the early 2010s claimed to capture low-frequency audio phenomena, including sighs and whispered voices. No conclusive explanations were offered, and the school continued operation until its closure and consolidation with other campuses.

Though the building now hosts different tenants, occasional reports from new occupants suggest that the subtle disturbances have not entirely ceased. Whether the sensations are residual, environmental, or psychological, the space remains imprinted with an energy that defies easy dismissal.

Stillness and Silence: Paranormal Accounts from Lorraine Park Cemetery

Lorraine Park Cemetery, located on the western edge of Baltimore in Woodlawn, Maryland, is one of the region’s larger burial grounds—spanning over 120 acres and housing generations of families, veterans, and local figures. Though primarily known as a peaceful site of remembrance, the cemetery has quietly gained a reputation among nearby residents and nighttime visitors for strange occurrences that suggest a lingering presence beyond the grave.

Established in 1884, Lorraine Park’s long history includes periods of rapid expansion, urban encroachment, and undocumented burials during the early 20th century. Like many cemeteries that straddle urban and rural zones, it exists in a liminal space—both geographically and symbolically. Within this setting, reports have emerged of shadowy figures moving between the headstones at night, unaccompanied by sound or explanation. Some describe a woman in black seen near the older sections of the cemetery, most often around dusk, who appears for seconds at a time before vanishing.

A recurring claim involves soft weeping heard near mausoleum clusters, especially during overcast or rainy evenings. Though presumed to be environmental by some, multiple independent witnesses have described the same pattern of sounds without visible sources. Visitors have also noted sudden temperature drops or moments of intense emotional heaviness when passing certain rows, particularly in areas known to contain the graves of children or those lost in early epidemics.

Technical malfunctions are common among those who attempt to photograph or film at night. Cameras shut off inexplicably, and images often appear distorted, with mist-like shapes or visual artifacts not visible to the naked eye. A local paranormal team investigating the cemetery in 2015 recorded faint voices through a spirit box session, including what they interpreted as the words “stay,” “wait,” and “not alone.”

Despite these accounts, Lorraine Park is not marketed as a haunted site, and its management discourages unauthorized visits after dark. Nonetheless, its reputation has quietly grown through word of mouth, online forums, and the testimony of those who have walked its paths alone and left with more questions than answers.
