Pretty Boy Dam Investigation by Denise Cramer

In October 2003, Denise Cramer participated in a paranormal investigation at Pretty Boy Dam with the Maryland Ghost and Spirit Association, accompanied by her 12-year-old son, Kevin. During the investigation, Denise felt an inexplicable force preventing her from descending steps to the water, while Kevin experienced a sensation of heaviness. Team leader Beverly Litsinger detected high readings from Kevin, suggesting a spirit had attached itself to him. Despite Kevin’s attempt to command the spirit to remain behind, it seemingly followed them home.
At home, the entity manifested by mimicking family members and their dog. Incidents included Denise witnessing a figure resembling her husband, Brett, descending into the basement, only to discover he was outside at the time. On another occasion, both Denise and Kevin saw a figure resembling Brett, who was actually elsewhere in the house. The entity also took on the appearance of their dog, leading to confusion when the real dog was found in a different location.
The activity escalated when kitchen cupboard doors began moving erratically. In response, Kevin firmly commanded the spirit to leave, stating, “Go away! I don’t want you here anymore!” Following this assertive demand, the disturbances ceased. Denise concluded that Kevin’s initial attempt to dismiss the spirit at the dam lacked sufficient firmness, underscoring the importance of assertiveness in such situations. Despite this unsettling experience, she expressed eagerness to participate in future investigations.

After going on a couple of investigations with the Maryland Ghost and Spirit Association I had to stop for awhile.

The last investigation I went on was to Pretty Boy Dam. I took my 12-year-old son. Beverly had told me before that spirits attach themselves to young people. The feeling at Pretty Boy Dam was so weird. I could not go down the steps to the water. It felt like something was holding me back. My son felt very heavy. When he told Bev that he felt heavy, she read him. His reading was high. She said he needed to tell whatever it was that had attached itself to him to stay behind. He did so but evidently not firmly enough.

This whatever-it-was then came home with Kevin and I –it was so unusual for us. It would manifest itself to look like my husband Brett. He ran past me and went down the basement steps. I hollered for him because I wanted to ask him something. When he replied, it turned out he was outside on the deck, not downstairs. Another time we saw him was when I was coloring Kevin’s hair. Brett walked past the bathroom and we told him to come see Kevin’s hair. He didn’t answer. I went back to where it went but no one was there. We found out that he was downstairs. My real Brett hadn’t been upstairs. It did this a couple of times. Then, it would manifest itself to look like our dog. CRAZY!!! We’d be talking to the dog, who was sitting in the kitchen, walk into another room, and there she would be sound asleep on my bed. After awhile you weren’t sure which one was the real one!

The night the cupboard doors in the kitchen went crazy was the last straw. Finally, my son Kevin hollered, “Go Away!!! I don’t want you here anymore!!!!” It was gone. Nothing has happened since. I told him he was not stern enough at the dam when he told the spirit to stay there. Now I’m looking forward to going on another investigation.
