Hager House Tavern Investigation by Denise Cramer

During a summer visit to Hagar House Tavern, Denise Cramer experienced a quirky mix of humor and the paranormal. The night took a bizarre turn when a tomato mysteriously slid across the table without human interference—much to everyone’s surprise. Later, an EMF detector spiked dramatically as a spirit whispered, “I’m back,” leaving the team in awe. At a nearby Civil War museum, Denise felt sick entering a room tied to wartime suffering, only to recover once outside. The investigation proved Hagar House and its surroundings aren’t just haunted—they’re playfully spooky and historically charged.

You know, there were a couple of things that happened on Saturday at the Hagan Tavern. There were just so many people there and everyone was so busy that I didn’t get to share the stories with you.

At the restaurant, the lady across from me: Her nephew and daughter all got cheeseburgers like me. When the mother and nephew got their cheeseburgers, they had bacon, lettuce and tomato. I asked the daughter, who was sitting beside me, how they were able to get bacon. She said that they asked the waitress.

They both put their tomatoes in the middle of their bread plates. Then, my cheeseburger came and the daughter’s cheeseburger came. She had just lettuce and tomato and I only had lettuce. I saw her take her tomato off her cheeseburger and put it on her bread plate. For some reason, I particularly noticed that she set it in the middle of the plate. I asked her if they had requested the tomato. She told me no.

I looked at her and said, “I didn’t get one.” The three of them all told me to take one of theirs, but I declined. It wasn’t one minute later that I noticed the tomato that belonged to the daughter sitting beside me was practically off her plate and coming to my side. It was hilarious. Since the mom was sitting across from me, I asked her if she saw her daughter push the tomato towards me. She said no, and I said that is what I thought because I hadn’t seen her do it either. The mom said someone evidently wanted me to have that tomato.

It was funny: This was the girl who got the recording of herself asking the spirit question and getting an answer. The EMF reading she got went from 199.00 to .02 –I saw it happen. This happened when they were recording. The spirit said, “I’m back.”

At the Civil War museum, I walked into one of the rooms with my kids, Kevin and Leah. All of a sudden I felt real sick to my stomach. I looked at Kevin and told him how sick I was feeling. Then as we went further into the room, we saw it was the room where the tent was and the tour lady said there were many spirits inside the tent. It was the room that represented where the men went for treatment for sickness and diarrhea. I was fine once we got back outside to the main entrance area.
