Annapolis Reynolds Tea Room Investigation 24 Jan 2004 by Gerri Tipton

On January 24, 2004, investigators at Annapolis’ Reynolds Tea Room experienced a supernatural tea party they wouldn’t forget. A glowing orb lit up the kitchen, while an invisible man—perhaps a soldier—lingered in the dining corner. Upstairs, the Mary Reynolds Room stole the show: a teacup swayed as if pacing footsteps were passing, and later, the bed visibly sunk as though someone had laid down for a nap. Paranormal meters spiked wildly at the entrance but settled near a news crew’s equipment, leaving questions about what truly stirs at this historic 1747 tavern.

On a recent ghost investigation to Reynolds Tea Room in Annapolis, there were a few more visitors than on the registered list. I’m not talking about people, I am speaking of ghosts. Right off the bat, Beverly got a great picture of an orb in the kitchen. She was more excited than my children at Christmas. There was also a strong feeling of a man in the corner where we were eating, perhaps a soldier from back in the day. I was standing out front of the building with a fellow investigator, and my meter went up to a whopping 8.5 (the meter was relatively still, not being moved around, and we were not moving around appreciably — it just went wacko for no apparent reason). At first, we thought it could be the camera from the local news station, but as we walked over closer to their equipment, my meter shot down next to nothing.

Upstairs was the best. Ever go into a room and get a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach or the hairs stand up straight on your arm? That is what happened in the Mary Reynolds Room. Mary Reynolds is the one who reportedly roams the halls of the Tea Room. She lived there with her husband in the tavern, built in 1747, where she still resides today. At the top of the stairs is a china cabinet displaying lots of small antiques. With my very own eyes, I watched the tea cup move back and forth, and this was when no one was walking. It was moving in such a way that it looked like someone was pacing back and forth in front of it. But, no one was there. At the end of the investigations someone was taking a last peek in Mary’s room. All of the sudden there was an impression on top of the bed that spread as if someone had laid on it. I guess our presence had tired Mary out and she was ready for bed.

Ghostly Whispers and Swirling Cups: The Reynolds Tea Room Investigation

Nestled in the heart of Annapolis, Reynolds Tea Room serves more than just tea and history. On January 24, 2004, this 1747 tavern revealed its spectral side during a paranormal investigation that turned the quaint tea house into a theater of the unexplained. If you think tea leaves can tell a story, wait until you hear what happened here.

The Glow in the Kitchen

Every ghost story needs a beginning, and for the investigators that night, it started in the kitchen. A glowing orb danced through the room, captured in vivid detail by one of the team’s cameras. This wasn’t just a flicker of light—it felt alive, a spectral intruder slipping between the shelves and counters, leaving chills in its wake. Who knew the kitchen could cook up more than just scones?

The Invisible Soldier

Downstairs, the dining room seemed calm until you felt it—the icy gaze of someone unseen. Investigators speculated it might be the spirit of a soldier, keeping watch in his old corner. Though he remained invisible, his presence was palpable, as if he’d been left behind by time to guard the space. The room, once alive with laughter and conversation, now hummed with quiet unease.

Mary Reynolds’ Room: A Ghostly Encore

The upstairs Mary Reynolds Room stole the show. As investigators paced the wooden floors, a teacup resting on the china cabinet began to sway. No drafts, no tricks, just the eerie sensation of unseen footsteps passing by. Later, the bed sank as if someone had gently reclined upon it, leaving onlookers frozen. It was the kind of moment you don’t forget—the line between history and the hereafter blurred in a single, quiet gesture.

A Mysterious Spike

At the entrance, paranormal meters spiked wildly, their needles dancing like jittery jazz musicians. Yet, oddly, the energy seemed to drift toward the equipment of a nearby news crew. Coincidence? Maybe. But in a place like Reynolds Tea Room, where the past is always just a whisper away, nothing feels accidental.

More Than Meets the Eye

Reynolds Tea Room isn’t just a spot for an afternoon brew—it’s a living, breathing archive of lives past and present. From orbs in the kitchen to ghostly swaying teacups and beds that cradle unseen visitors, this Annapolis treasure proves that history doesn’t just linger—it lives.

So the next time you visit Reynolds Tea Room, take a moment to listen. You might just hear Mary Reynolds herself, sharing a story over tea, or catch a soldier’s cold stare from the corner. Either way, you’ll leave with more than just a warm cup in your hands—you’ll have a story to tell.
